Central City Cask Fest

In brew fests, cask fest, ubc, vancouver on June 27, 2011 at 7:35 pm

I can’t find my notes from the Brewery Creek Beer Fest, so I will give you this instead.

I headed down to the Central City Brewing Co’s Cask Fest on Saturday June 25 2011. Not going to lie, going down to Surrey to drink beer does seem a little much, but I trust the folk at Central City to throw us some good beers, so I wasn’t too whiny about it.

My ticket for the cask fest!

I met up with some of the old RBF crew, and we got some good hearty brunch in preparation. When we finally got to Surrey, I was quite disappointed with the selection of beers. There were some local beers, and some from the States, which was exciting. CAMRA was there as usual, with events like these to promote the awesomeness of real ales.

I was actually impressed by the selection of IPAs. Though I’m generally not a fan of IPAs, I have to say I was won over by the end of the cask fest. I really enjoyed the Promethius Double IPA from Elysian. It was fruity and smelled super hoppy, which I absolutely loved. Central City’s Oaked Imperial Smoked Porter and Storm’s Root of All Evil Root Beer would make excellent beer floats with their strong smokey flavours and sweetness respectively. I was disappointed with the mild tastings of the Spinnakers’s Peach Heffewizen and Vancouver Island Brewery’s Hibiscus Heffeweizen, because I guess I was hoping for a kick of the respective flavours. The R&B Milk Stout sounded way more interesting than it’s taste, which was really sort of a mellow coffee porter. I was hoping for a more milk/cream taste to the beer, which would be interesting.

Anyways, it was definitely an eye opener, and I was treated to the wonderful goodness of cask treated ales, which is a win in itself, so I’m not complaining.

Everyone is happy with their belly full of beer!

Until next time!

love,
Kathy

It’s the summer time!

In Uncategorized on June 2, 2011 at 8:54 pm

Hey boys and girls,

So last term was an exciting one. We had a pretty regular brewing thing going on every week, and we’re hoping to bring more interesting events to you next year! I hope you guys had the time check out the Vancouver Craft Beer Week when it was here. A couple of us went to the last day of the Brewery Creek Beer Festival on the last day. I brought a camera, but was too distracted by the different beers to whip it out. I’ll be adding a post about that soon, so stay tuned (I know it’s kind of dated, but whatever)

We’re going to get our summer brewing sessions started up pretty soon, and we’re going to be brewing outside! So get ready to roll up those sleeves and get our tan on. We’re also going to be more ambitious this summer, and move towards more all-grain recipes. More details to come soon!

Until then, ciao!

Love,
Kathy
